LITIM Japanese is a free website for reading Japanese literature. It is run by LITIM, a small independent business based in Tokyo, Japan. This page explains what information the site uses and why. We have tried to keep it short and plain.

The short version

• You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name or email address to use the site.
• We don't use advertising, and we don't sell or share your information.
• Your reading settings are saved only in your own browser.
• If you email us, we use your email only to reply to you.

Information saved in your browser

Some of your settings are saved in your browser's local storage, so the site remembers them the next time you visit:

• reading settings, such as font size, background color, highlighting and whether furigana are shown
• whether meanings and translations are shown or hidden on the expressions and grammar pages

This information stays on your device. It is not sent to us. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this website.

The site does not use cookies for tracking or advertising.

Information collected when you visit

Like almost every website, our servers receive some basic technical information when your browser requests a page — for example, your IP address, your browser type and the page you asked for. This information is handled by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse. We do not use it to identify you.

We do not currently use any analytics tools. If we add one in the future, we will update this page first.

Services from other companies

The site uses a small number of services from other companies:

• Cloudflare hosts and delivers the website.
• Google Fonts provides some of the fonts. When a page loads, your browser requests the fonts from Google's servers, and Google receives your IP address as part of that request.

These companies handle information according to their own privacy policies.

If you contact us

If you send us an email, we receive your email address and whatever you write in your message. We use this only to read and reply to your message. We don't add you to any mailing list, and we don't share your message with anyone else. You can ask us to delete your emails at any time.

Children

The site is designed for learners of all ages, and it does not collect personal information from anyone who uses it. If you are a parent and believe your child has sent us personal information by email, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices

Because we don't keep accounts or personal profiles, there is very little information about you for us to hold. If you have emailed us and would like to see, correct or delete that message, just write to us at the address below.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site uses information, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
